before long 和long before 非常容易用错

before long 和long before 是意思完全不相同的两个词组。很多同学在实际运用中经常出错。

1、before long：

（1）它是介词短语很久以前英文，意为“不久以后”、“不久”。如：

I hope to see you before long。我希望不久能再见到你。

（2）它所在句中的谓语动词可用于多种时态。如：

①The dictionary will be published before long. 不久以后这本词典将被出版。（一般将来时态）

②Before long, he began to write another novel. 不久他又开始写另一部小说了。（一般过去时态）

③I hope to see you before long. 我希望不久就可以见到你。（一般现在时态）

2、long before：

（1）它单独使用时是副词短语，表示“很久以前” 。如：

I saw the film long before。我很久以前就看过这部电影。

（2）它常用一般过去时或过去完成时，后面跟从句时也可以用在现在时的句子中。

①I had known him long before . 我很早以前就认识他。（过去完成时）

②We read that book long before. 我们很久以前就读过那本书了。（一般过去时）

（3）短语中的before也可作介词，后面需要接名词、代词、动名词等。

He left long before my arrival. 在我到达很早前他就离开了（arrival是名词）

（4）before也可作连词，后面接从句，此时从句的时态要根据时间状语从句的具体时态而定。

You can call them dead long before any problems show up on the balance sheet. 你可以在它们的财务报表出现问题前很久就说它们已经死了。（从句很久以前英文，一般现在时态）
